Statement
Rebecca McCardle is a visual artist whose practice interrogates themes of being, cognition, and perception. Working across 2D and 3D forms, she employs both analogue and digital processes to examine and reconfigure the material conditions of object, space, and place, foregrounding the sensory and temporal dimensions of experience.
Central to her methodology is a deliberate deceleration. Attempting resistance to the accelerated logics of contemporary culture, characterised by perpetual motion, consumption, and immediacy. Through this enacted pause, her work invites sustained attention and embodied engagement, challenging habitual modes of viewing.
Her practice includes a series of Polaroid works that appropriate the visual language of the 1970s family album. These materially situated, softly abstracted images articulate a tension between analogue memory as tactile, indexical trace and the immaterial, backlit, and digitally encoded nature of contemporary image cultures.
McCardle holds a PGCE and a BA in Fine Art from the University of Brighton. Alongside her artistic practice, she is a Digital Innovation Lead at Chichester College Group, where her work operates at the intersection of creative practice, pedagogy, and emergent technologies.
